There have been several renditions of “Hallelujah,” but none can compare to Jennifer Hudson’s beautiful rendition performed at Royal Albert Hall. The crowd at the Global Citizen Prize presentation was captivated by the Chicago, Illinois R&B singer as she performed a rendition of Leonard Cohen’s classic.
The song began with a wonderful vocal melody by J.Hud, who then passionately and firmly sang the first stanza. The lady easily brought out the song’s beauty and demonstrated tremendous dynamic control with her unequaled pair of pipes as she went to town on the tune. With so many people streaming the song online, the music video quickly racked up 16 million views.
For the initial stanza, Hudson sang solo, with just the barest accompaniment of piano, allowing her voice to shine. She was completely unfazed by the difficulty and devoted herself fully to the performance. J.Hud was able to really shine on the track with the beautiful accompaniment of a choir and full band beginning with the main vocal refrain. The unique performance was beautifully concluded with a call and response segment including both her and the choir.
Online commenters gushed over Hudson’s “Hallelujah,” praising her vocal prowess and stating that Hudson is among the greatest singers of all time. It demonstrates her skill, commitment, and competence. Everyone else in the music business looks up to her.
