Dolly Parton criticized for looking “cheap” and “ugly” – but she’s hit back

Dolly Parton has enjoyed a long and incredibly successful life in the spotlight.

The legendary singer’s talents have spanned decades and genres, making her a mainstay in the entertainment industry for as long as many can remember. Despite her iconic status, even someone as renowned as Dolly has faced criticism. Recently, some critics have targeted her looks, even as she approaches her eighties.

At 77, Dolly Parton is a household name in both country music and the broader celebrity landscape. The Tennessee native has become a true icon, captivating audiences with her performances throughout her life.

In a recent interview with Pollystar, Dolly shared that she would no longer be embarking on extensive tours. She stated, “I’ll do special shows here and there, maybe a long weekend of performances or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore.”

Having risen to the pinnacle of the entertainment world after growing up in poverty in the Appalachian Mountains, Dolly will surely be missed on stage. However, while her popularity is undeniable, she has faced criticism regarding her appearance for years.

Dolly has often recalled being advised to change her signature look early in her career. “The main advice that people wanted to give me was to change my look— to simplify my hair and style,” she explained. “They said I would never be taken seriously if I didn’t look less flashy.”

Unfortunately, the harsh comments haven’t faded over time; in fact, some feel emboldened to make unfair remarks about her appearance.

One Twitter user wrote, “Dolly Parton is one ugly lady,” while another commented, “Dolly Parton is so ugly, but she has nice breasts.”

Despite the negativity, Dolly remains positive and confident in herself. She has famously said, “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap,” embracing her unique style without hesitation.

As for her husband, Dolly has revealed that he loves her just the way she is. “He doesn’t care if I’m fat,” she said. “He’s fool enough to think I’m the sexiest, prettiest woman in the world.”

Dolly’s ambition is as strong as ever. According to Rolling Stone, she is eager to embrace her 2022 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and plans to honor this achievement with an album that might surprise some fans.

Many were thrilled last year when Dolly was considered for a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after her illustrious career. Initially, she hesitated, believing her focus on country music might not align with the Hall’s criteria. However, the voters ultimately decided that Dolly indeed belonged there. In November, she was inducted and immediately set out to prove that her selection was justified.

No matter the criticism, I believe Dolly Parton is incredibly talented!
